I'm a writer. At least, I'd like to think so. I write. I think about writing. I'm in love with my characters, and they are my first thoughts in the morning and last at night. I'm obsessed by people that don't exist.
By that little analysis, I like to believe that I am a writer, unpublished or not. The unpublished bit might be over one day, but even now in the trenches of an unfinished or unedited novel I think that I am exactly that.
While writing about people who aren't real, I'm actually a psychology undergraduate. My second passion is discovering the human mind and behaviour. Why do people check to see if their door is locked three times? Or why do people constantly care what people think? Fascinated.
While my ultimate goal is to become a certified counsellor, my personal goal is to get published. That's every writer's dream.
My third, and final, passion is nail technology. I have horrible nails which resulted in my teaching myself to make acrylic and gel nails to hide them. So when my student loan came through, buying a home study course was the first thing on the shopping list.
Becoming a qualified nail technician is my "back-up" career. While becoming a counsellor will be eventually worth it, the amount of time and effort and study to get there is exhausting. Very few places teach accredited courses, none of which are near me, so I would have to move to accomplish this dream unless they realize that Wales really needs an accredited counselling psychotherapy course. So there is where my other talents can kick in. I can work anywhere as a nail technician, even from the comfort of my own flat in Surrey if the time comes. Right now my mother's front room will have to suffice.
Besides the big dreams, I have six cats. Yes, six, you did read that right. All of the are my babies, even if they aren't all mine, only one is. They provide such an inspiration. They can't talk, but have amazing personalities which only shape my opinion of behaviour for the better.
I live with my head in a book. My book case is over flowing and still more books are being ordered, regardless of owning a Kindle.
Here are my top ten books, and the reasons why...
1) An Autumn Crush by Milly Johnson.
Inspirational and the male character is sensitive and sweet, falling in love and messing it up which reminds me of the male protagonist in mine. It shows me that it's not only in my head that those kinds of men exist.
2) 50 Shades of Grey by E. L. James (Whole trilogy, like it's possible to pick one.)
I love a bit of sauciness, it's what happens in real life and should be between pages as well as the bed covers too. The story is inspirational for romance to bloom even in the weirdest circumstances. It assures me that it's okay to be different, and that Mrs James broke the mould and turned the publishing business upside down. Nothing is impossible.
3)Walking Disaster by Jamie Mcguire.
Purely because it's written from a male POV. It's so refreshing to see through the eyes of a man in love. Opens up a whole new world to the male characters in your own books when you get inside a man's head.
4) Bared to You by Sylvia Day.
While similar to 50 Shades of Gray, Ms Day has created another best seller through the use of the most commonly used source of pleasure, whilst being blunt and developing another dysfunctional romance. IT IS OKAY TO BE DIFFERENT.
5) Twilight by Stephanie Meyers.
Despite not being into vampires and werewolves usually, the romance in this book is far too good to ignore. While reading them, I became obsessed with them. I read the book, then watched the film, and continued until I finished the saga. The triangle of love is a great comparison for my books, along with hideous monsters... even if mine isn't immortal or doesn't turn into a dog.
6) Nine uses for an Ex-boyfriend by Sarra Manning.
Quite simply the most emotional and powerful book I have ever read. The sad storyline is heart breaking for the main character. I was flooded with hot tears just reading it. They never stopped. Even when I had finished it, the sadness continued to haunt me long after I had finished the final page. I'm still not brave enough to go back for a second read.
7) I Remember You by Harriet Evans.
A classic love tale. Beautiful settings and adorable characters, one book I've read many times. I love any work of Harriet Evans's and this was my first read of her, and now the rest of her work sits on my shelf.
8) All I Ever Wanted by Kristin Higgins.
Another lush love story. I've flirted with the idea of unrequited love, this books just explores it for me. My curiosity sated by the pages. Love it and a super easy read.
9) Lessons in Laughing Out Loud by Rowan Coleman.
Again, more romance. Another great tale. It combines a love triangle, unrequited love and beautiful shoes, what more could you ask for?
10) Della Says OMG by Keris Stainton.
My favourite Young Adult author. This book, as small as it may be, was so enjoyable to read. Okay, it didn't last long with me, but it's relatable and cringy in the most inconvenient of ways for young girls. A bubble of laughs, kisses and flushing cheeks. Fab YA book.
Well that's pretty much me!
